Colt First Generation Single Action Army Revolver in Very Scarce .44 Russian with Factory Letter The accompanying factory letter lists this revolver as shipped on January 22, 1902, to M. Hartley Company in New York City, in .44 Russian with a 7 1/2 inch barrel, nickel finish, and type of grips not listed, as the sole gun of its type in the shipment. Only 154 standard frame Single Action Army revolvers were recorded in factory ledgers as shipped in .44 Russian per page 252 of "The Book of Colt Firearms" by R.L. Wilson. Colt offered the .44 Russian chambering in the standard Single Action Army revolvers on a special order basis. The top of the barrel is marked with the one-line Colt Hartford address and the rare marking "FOR 44 S&W CTG." is on the left in reference to the .44 S&W Russian cartridge. The left side of the frame has the two-line patent dates followed by the Rampant Colt. It has a blade front sight and frame-top groove rear sight, and a pair of checkered hard rubber grips. Matching visible serial numbers are marked on the frame, trigger guard and back strap, unnumbered cylinder, assembly number "307" is on the loading gate, and non-matching "210064" is hand etched on the interior of the right grip panel.
