Colt First Generation Single Action Army Revolver in Desirable .357 Magnum This is an attractive 1936 production Colt Single Action Army revolver chambered in the venerable .357 Magnum. An included scanned copy of a Colt archive letter indicates that a factory shipment record was unable to be located for this revolver. Single Action Army records between c. 1933-1944 are believed to have been lost or destroyed. Only 525 standard frame Colt First Generation Single Action Army revolvers were recorded in factory ledgers as chambered in .357 Magnum per page 252 of "The Book of Colt Firearms" by R.L. Wilson. Introduced in 1935 towards the end of first generation production, the .357 Magnum cartridge was popular with highway and law enforcement agencies looking for a powerful cartridge that could stop a car by damaging its engine. The one-line Colt Hartford address is marked on top of the barrel, and "COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY .357" is on the left side. Matching visible serial numbers are marked on the frame and right side of both grip straps, non-matching number "9311" is hand etched on the interior of the left grip, unnumbered cylinder, and assembly number "769" on the loading gate and rear of the frame. The name "EM MEACHAM" is period etched on the interior of the right grip. The left side of the trigger guard is marked with the number "4" above a factory triangle "VP" proof. The right side of the trigger guard is marked with an "&" factory refurbishment stamp, and a small star is stamped on the front of the cylinder.
