Colt Model 1851 Navy Revolver with Gold Damascene Embellishment This is an attractive example of a Colt Model 1851 Navy revolver with gold Damascene finish. Gold Damascene finishes are typically found on Colt revolvers associated with India. The Damascene on this revolver covers nearly the entire surface of the revolver and consists of intricate Oriental scrollwork. The metal surfaces have been lightly cross hatched to accept the gold finish and the exposed metal has a rough blackened finish. All of the Colt marking and serial numbers are covered by the gold inlays. The one-piece grip fancy grain, highly figured, walnut. The revolver has the typical Fourth Model large oval trigger guard and recoil shield with capping cut out. The hammer has bordered knurling on the spur. The trigger guard and back strap are steel with the same darkened, cross hatched finish as the barrel, frame, cylinder and loading lever. The Damascene is well executed and appears to be 19th century work. Manufacturer: Colt Model: 1851 BBL: 7 1/2 inch octagon Stock: Gauge: 31 percussion Finish: gold damascene Grips: walnut Serial Number: NSN Class: Antique Condition: Very good as period embellished. The revolver retains 70% of the gold Damascene. The gold work is well executed and the grips are in very fine condition. The revolver shows heavy wear. The percussion nipples, rear face of the cylinder, hammer well and sides of the hammer have heavily flash-pitting. There is light pitting on all the exposed metal surfaces. The screw heads are battered. The action function is worn on the cylinder stops. Still a very attractive Colt Model 1851 with gold Danascene embellishments.
