Rare J.P. Lower, Denver, Colorado, Shipped Colt Bisley Flattop Target Model Revolver with Factory Letter Manufactured in 1908. This is one of only 976 Bisley Flattop Target Model revolvers that were manufactured; surviving examples are scarce in any condition. Of the 976 Flattop Bisleys manufactured only 98 were chambered in 38-40 caliber. This revolver has the distinctive Bisley target grip with special "flattop" frame with a dovetailed target rear sight and front sight blade. The top of the barrel is marked with the one line address, "(BISLEY MODEL) 38 W.C.F." is on the left side, and the two line, three patent dates are marked on the left side of the frame followed by the circled Rampant Colt. The matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and back strap. Fitted with checkered hard rubber grips with the Rampant Colt in an oval at the top. The accompanying factory letter verifies the caliber, barrel length, blue finish, with grips as "Not Listed" (hard rubber are standard) and that it was shipped as 1 to J.P. Lowers & Sons, Denver, Colorado, on January 27, 1910. Manufacturer: Colt Model: Bisley BBL: 7 1/2 inch round Stock: Gauge: 38 WCF Finish: blue Grips: hard rubber Serial Number: 3057572 Class: Curio & Relic Handgun Condition: Fine. The revolver retains 60% original blue finish with thinning and scattered minor flaking on the barrel and frame, a smooth mottled gray patina on the cylinder and grip straps, and original blue finish in the cylinder flutes. The grips are also fine with a few minor dings and handling marks and crisp checkering. The markings are clear. The action is excellent.
