Desirable World War II Production U.S. Inspected Colt Service Model Ace 22 LR Semi-Automatic Pistol This is an original example of a U.S. inspected Colt Service Model Ace manufactured in 1941. The left side of the slide has standard Colt's two-line patent dates and Colt Hartford address in two unbroken lines followed by the Rampant Colt logo. The right side of the slide is stamped with standard "COLT (followed by) SERVICE/MODEL ACE (inside a diamond logo) .22 LONG /RIFLE". The slide is serial numbered to the frame under the firing pin stop. The left side of the frame is stamped with the boxed "WB" cartouche of the U.S. Ordnance inspector Col. Waldemar Broberg, however the frame is not stamped with the usual U.S. Ordnance Corps Cross-Cannon proof nor the "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" markings, which may indicate its an overrun frame that was used for commercial production. This example does have the pre-war type adjustable target rear sight matched with the high, thick blade front sight. It is also fitted with the fully checkered walnut stocks, milled trigger with the checkered face, checkered mainspring housing, thumb safety and slide stop release. It has the wide spur hammer with the borderless checkering. Manufacturer: Colt Model: Ace Service Model BBL: 4 3/4 inch round Stock: Gauge: 22 LR Finish: blue Grips: walnut Serial Number: SM2650 Class: Curio & Relic Handgun Condition: Very fine. 85% plus original blue finish remains with areas of edge wear on the slide and frame, speckling and spotting on the right side of the frame and slide, and a mixed gray/blue patina on the front grip strap. Grips are also very fine with sharp checkering and some small dings. Mechanically excellent.
