London Cased Colt Sheriff's Model 1877 Lightning Double Action Revolver with Scarce London Address, British Proofs, and Etched Panel This Model 1877 "Lightning" revolver was manufactured in 1882 and has "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. Co HARTFORD CT. U.S.A./DEPOT 14. PALL MALL LONDON" on the top of the barrel and "COLT D.A. 38" in an etched panel on the left. The three-line patent dates are on left side of frame, and "38 CAL" is stamped on the left rear of the trigger guard. The cylinder has several British proofs, and two more are stamped on the lower left side of the barrel. The serial number is marked on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard, and back strap. The matching cylinder is numbered "239" . The assembly number "62" is stamped on the loading gate. It is fitted with a pair of checkered hard rubber grips with the Rampant Colt emblem. The English oak case has a screw-fastened lid with circular brass initial plate. The case is lined with blue velvet and has a section fitted to the gun along with three compartments and a cartridge block. Included in the case are an oiler and some patches. The interior of the lid has a "Colt's Patent Fire Arms Manufacturing Co/26. Glasshouse, Street,/Picadilly Circus/London, W." marked label. It includes a survey form that lists the details of the gun. The revolver retains 85% of the blue finish and deep case colors with various scratches and marks throughout and some loss at the muzzle and fading on the grip straps. The grips are fine with some slight dings and aged coloration. Mechanically fine with clear markings. The case is fine with some stains and minor wear on the interior and general storage type wear on the exterior.
