Smooth straight grip stock, with Japanese branding on the right side of the butt and a steel buttplate. Numbers are mismatched on the bolt, trigger guard and front band. The stock is fair as repaired with mended cracks on the right side behind the bolt, a few small chips and scattered dings. Mechanically fine. B) Japanese Type 22 Murata Repeating Rifle An evolution of the Type 13, Japan's first locally made smokeless powder rifle. Blade front and folding ladder rear sight, with a bayonet guide on the side of the tube magazine, a cutoff switch on the right side of the receiver, and 2 concentric circle stamps over the mum on the chamber. Straight wrist stock, with checkering on the forearm, sling swivels, a flat steel buttplate and a faint round cartouche on the right side of the buttstock. Mismatched bolt. Manufacturer: Japanese Model: Type 22 BBL: 29 1/4 inch round Stock: hardwood Gauge: 8 mm Finish: blue Grips: Serial Number: 106544 Class: Antique Condition: Fair with traces of the blue finish showing scattered pitting, the balance mostly brown patina and mild handling marks. Stock is fair with some cracks, chips and dents. Magazine spring/follower absent, otherwise mechanically good.
