U.S. Civil War Contract Starr Model 1858 Army Double Action Percussion Revolver Around 23,000 Model 1858 Army revolvers were manufactured during the late 1850s and early 1860s. Most were purchased by the U.S. Government and saw use during the Civil War. These revolvers were some of the few double actions used by U.S. troops during the percussion era. Though the double action design allowed for more rapid fire, it was less reliable, and the government requested a less expensive single action variant be produced. The Starr revolvers as a group were third in widespread use only to Colt and Remington revolvers. This example has the standard markings and features including "CSL" (Major Charles S. Lowell) and "GKC" (George K. Charter) cartouches on the grip. Manufacturer: Starr Arms Company Model: 1858 BBL: 6 inch round Stock: Gauge: 44 percussion Finish: blue Grips: walnut Serial Number: 14944 Class: Antique Condition: Very good. 20% of the original blue finish remains, and traces of original case colors are on the loading lever. The balance has primarily gray patina as well as some patches of light spotting and some scattered scratches. The grip is fine with sharp cartouches, some dings and scrapes on balance. The action is mechanically fine, and the markings are crisp.
