Post-War Alteration Spencer Repeating Saddle Ring Carbine Manufactured in 1863-65 for use during the Civil War. 11,000 were reportedly altered by Springfield Armory around 1867-68 for use in the Indian Wars. This example has the standard U.S. contract markings and features and has been fitted with a Stabler cutoff. The balance has gray and brown patina and minimal light spotting. The re-oiled wood is fine with a glued repair on the right of the forearm at the top rear, a chip at the toe, and numerous scratches and small dings. Some of the markings are faded. It is mechanically excellent.
