Hole Flintlock Pistol Manufactured circa 1815-20. The browned octagonal sighted barrel with casehardened patent breech inlaid with two gold lines, a gold lined maker's stamp marked "W. HOLE BRISTOL" and platinum lined touch hole. Scroll engraved tang incorporating the fixed rear sight. Flat bevelled detented lock retained by a single side nail, signed "W. HOLE BRISTOL" with stepped tail, blued safety catch, rainproof pan, roller and engraved with foliage, a sunburst and a martial trophy. Blued set trigger, trigger plate with pineapple finial and spurred trigger guard engraved with a further martial trophy. Figured walnut half stock with checkered butt, and silver mounts including engraved butt cap and plain fore-arm cap. Original brass mounted ramrod with worm. Barrel has been rebrowned, faded traces of original casehardened finish to the patent breech. Safety catch, steel spring, roller and trigger have been reblued. The trigger is slipping off the set position. Steel has been refaced. The proofmarks struck on the underside of the barrel appear to be a hybrid of the post-1815 Birmingham proof and view marks and Tower private proofmarks. Some wear to the engraving on the mounts, iron parts discolored. Stock with age related blemishes and marks and with an inset repair along the right upper edge of the forearm. Mechanically excellent. In associated brass cornered mahogany case relined and refitted in green baize, accessories including brass mounted copper two way powder flask, iron pincer bullet mold and iron mainsrping clamp.
