Documented Cased Master Signed and Engraved Gold Inlaid Colt Government Model Semi-Automatic Pistol in "The Book of Colt Engraving" Manufactured in 1970 and subsequently beautifully engraved and gold inlaid by Lynton McKenzie. This pistol, case and accessories are pictured and briefly described on pages 396 and 397 of "The Book of Colt Engraving" copyrighted in 1974 by R.L. Wilson. The pistol features full coverage of McKenzie's finest Victorian scrollwork with a matte background and erotic gold inlaid scenes. There is a relief gold inlaid delicate maiden on the front strap and a satyr and nymph relief gold inlaid scene on the top and sides of the slide. There is a satyr face on the grip safety and a torch and ribbon design on the underside of the frame. The trigger guard shows a scene of three gold inlaid bats with a crescent moon. The sides of the frame, slide and trigger guard have a gold inlaid wire border. The grip screw heads are engraved with a floral design, and the escutcheons are gold inlaid. The bottom edge of the grip frame is engraved "L.S.MMcKENZIE" on the left side and "NEW ORLEANS ARMS" on the right side. The entire pistol is finished in a French gray including the magazine which is also engraved on the bottom in the same design as the pistol and marked "COLT/45 AUTO". The serial number is marked on the right side of the frame, and all other Colt factory markings have been removed. Standard low profile blade and fixed rear sights and fitted with smooth grips. The back of the grips read, "This is the first 1911 Colt to be engraved by Lynton McKenzie. The case and some of the accessories were by Stanley Diefenthal… I made this engraved set as a sample of our work. The scenes were drawn up by Frank Humphries. All polishing was done by Joe Salazar. I did all the engraving. JMK 1973." The pistol comes in a nicely figured wood case with brass disk on the lid, engraved latch and lock assembly and French fitting red felt lining. There is a built in stand holder in the pistol compartment and stand. Also in the case is a dummy French gray magazine with Victorian scrollwork on the spine and bottom, the matching serial number on the front edge and relief gold inlaid erotic scenes on both sides, brass oiler with engraved top, cleaning rod with screwdriver with engraved hardware, engraved key and a built in brass container with engraved hardware. There are two compartments with lids and the brass pulls are also engraved. The grips are excellent with an extremely attractive grain and coloring. The engraving is sharp. The case is excellent with a few minor handling marks on the exterior and some stains and light wear on the interior. A masterfully engraved and gold inlaid Colt Government Model pistol that would be the centerpiece to any Colt collection.
