Gustave Young Deluxe Engraved Gold-Plated Smith & Wesson No. 1 Second Issue Revolver with Pearl Grips and Gutta Percha Case Offered here is a gold and blue finished S&W No. 1 Second Issue revolver featuring Gustave Young engraving and in a rare S&W gutta percha case. Confirmed by S&W historian Roy Jinks as one of a small number of factory engraved Model No. 1 Second Issues found in the low 90,000 serial number range that were engraved by Gustave Young himself. This revolver has a beautiful floral scroll engraving covering the barrel and frame sides, back strap, butt and cylinder. The top of the barrel rib has the one-line S&W address inside an engraved panel and scrollwork at the breech. Along with the scroll engraving, the cylinder has the patent date marking and an engraved vignette American eagle and shield motif. Fitted with matching number pearl grips. Complete with an original Smith & Wesson gutta percha case with decorative relief lid showing an image of a Number One revolver and "MANUFACTURED ONLY BY/SMITH & WESSON,/SPRINGFIELD MASSACHUSETTS". The inside of the lid has decorative maroon velvet, the bottom of the case is lined in brown velvet, and the case contains a 56-round cartridge block holding 21 cartridges. One of a very small group of rare factory engraved "panel scene" embellished No. 1 Second Issue. Manufacturer: Smith & Wesson Model: 1 BBL: 3 3/16 inch solid rib Stock: Gauge: 22 RF Finish: blue/gold Grips: pearl Serial Number: 93452 Class: Antique Condition: Very good. The barrel retains a generous amount of original blue finish with the balance a blended gray patina. The frame retains 40% original gold plating. The engraving is crisp. The grips are fine with a repair on the lower right panel. Mechanically excellent. The case is extremely fine showing a common hairline stress crack near a hinge and high spot wear to the lining. The delicate nature of these cases meant that many did not survive. Do not miss your opportunity to acquire a gutta percha cased Gustave Young engraved No. 1 revolver for your antique S&W collection!
