Exceptional Documented Cased Colt Model 1855 6A Variation Sidehammer Pocket Percussion Revolver The "Root", as it is commonly known, was the only solid frame percussion revolver Colt ever made. This is an exceptional example of a cased Model 6A variation of the Model 1855 revolver that was manufactured in 1865 and featured on the cover of the May 2001 issue of The Gun Report. The top of the barrel is marked with the two-line New York address. The cylinder has the stagecoach holdup scene. Matching serial numbers are stamped on the butt, cylinder and barrel. The grip is checkered. Comes with a rare partitioned case with a special compartment for three packages of combustible envelope cartridges. Three sealed cartridge packages are included along with a sealed Eley cap tin, "L" wrench/screwdriver, .31 caliber Colt's patent two-cavity bullet mold, extra loading lever and plunger, double face peacock powder flask, lead rounds and case key. The revolver retains 85% bright original high polish blue finish with the balance a smooth brown-gray patina. Nearly all of the cylinder scene remains. 80% original case colors remain on the hammer and loading lever. The grip is excellent with crisp checkering overall. Mechanically excellent. The case is fine showing some moderate high spot wear on the lining and minor handling/storage marks. The peacock powder flask is excellent; one of the best known. A solid example of a cased Colt Model 1855 Root 6A revolver that will enhance even the most advanced Colt collection.
