  • Provenance: Carol Thornton was an acclaimed Southwest sculptor, author, and foundational figure in the New Mexico art scene. A proud Texas Christian University alumna, Thornton transitioned from an early career in education to become a full-time artist and prominent gallerist. In the late 1960s, she opened her celebrated art gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico, which served as a vital hub for regional art before she eventually relocated her studio to Weatherford, Texas.

Renowned for her exceptional ability to bring history to life in three dimensions, Thornton is best known for creating The Clark Brothers, a monumental, larger-than-life bronze centerpiece on the TCU campus. Her mastery of the bronze medium—characterized by a meticulous six-month process of building muscle, tissue, and "skin" out of hundreds of pounds of clay—allowed her to capture the profound spirit, dignity, and anatomy of her subjects. Thornton's works remain highly collectible testaments to the enduring legacy of Western and Southwestern figurative art.
  • Dimensions: 22 1/2 x 10 3/4 x 12 1/2 in. (57.2 x 27.3 x 31.8 cm.)
  • Medium: Bronze Sculpture, 1982
