Carmen Beckmann (Mexican, active XX century)., . Silver and amethyst necklace. Stamped "Sterling," "Mexico," and "Beckman" on second link from hook. A sterling silver and amethyst necklace by Mexican modernist jeweler Carmen Beckmann, composed of articulated double-rail links of angular, chevron-pointed profile set at each junction with a round amethyst cabochon, the whole forming a spare geometric collar that sits close to the throat. The design belongs squarely to the Mexican silver modernist tradition centered in Taxco, where mid-twentieth century workshops translated the formal language of Art Deco and International Modernism into wearable objects of remarkable restraint, pairing the architectural austerity of flat and angled metalwork against the sensory richness of deep purple stone. Eleven cabochons of varying violet intensity punctuate the open silver framework with deliberate rhythm, the coloration ranging from pale lilac to saturated grape, each bezel-set flush to the link surface in a manner that lets the geometry of the metalwork and the depth of the amethyst speak to one another without competition. Size: 15.2" L x 0.7" W (38.6 cm L x 1.8 cm W); silver quality: 95.7%; weight: 81.5 grams

Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection
