This is a wonderful 19th-Century Sioux Beaded Indian Hide sinew sewn sheath and bone handled trade knife from a child or woman with provenance card from ex-Manitou March in Montana circa 2001. The circa 1870-1880's piece is comprised of thick Indian tanned Great American Buffalo Bison hide with sinew sewn old 1800’s glass trade seed beads in a classic buffalo track geometric Sioux design. The beadworks shows a fancy edge and overall shows colors of chalk white, cobalt, red white heart, medium green, semi-transparent dark green and semi-transparent red. The piece is paired with a dark yellowed bone handled skinning trade knife with sharpened down blade, possibly a buffalo bone handle. The provenance card is marked, "Purchased at Manitou Auction Great Falls, Mont. 2001 Cataloge 2001, page 6, item 41 pd. 178.-.” on the front and an old typewriter typed, "Sioux Childs Knife Case. Beaded w/ white, green, blue, red beads. 4 ½” x 1 ½” Has a 6” knife w/ bone handle 3 rivits (rivets).” Measures overall 4.75-inches long by 1 7/8-inches wide. Knife is 6-inches long.
