Burma, ca. late 19th century. Large carved wood Buddha, seated on a tiered integral base, in “calling the earth to witness” meditation mudra. Buddha bears serene facial expression, head held in a slightly downward position. Wearing a one-shouldered garment. Overall original black lacquered surface with traces of gilt present. 16" H × 11.5" W (40.64 cm H × 29.21 cm W).

Provenance: Collection of Tom Carson, NYS., active 1970’s - early 2000’s, then by descent to family.
