Excellent British Proofed Colt Model 1849 Pocket Percussion Revolver with Colt London Case Manufactured in 1864, this is a superb example of a cased Colt Model 1849 revolver. British crown/letter inspection proofs are stamped on the left side of the barrel lug and on the rear of the cylinder between each chamber. The top barrel flat is stamped with the one-line New York address, the left side of the frame is stamped "COLTS/PATENT," and the left side of the trigger guard is stamped "31 CAL." The cylinder has the stagecoach holdup scene. Matching serial numbers are stamped on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, back strap, cylinder, loading lever, arbor and wedge. The English oak partitioned case features a highly desirable Colt London paper picture label on the interior of the lid and contains a wood handle bore rod, Colt's patent two-cavity bullet mold, Hawksley oiler, Dixon powder flask specifically made for Colt pocket revolvers (and so marked), sealed package of combustible envelope cartridges, "L" wrench/screwdriver, Eley cap tin (empty), a few lead rounds and case key. The revolver retains 95% plus bright original high polish blue finish with the balance thinning to a brown. Nearly all of the cylinder scene remains. 97% original vivid case colors remain on the loading lever, hammer and frame. The grip straps retain 40% original silver plating. The grip is also excellent showing some mild-minor handling marks and retaining nearly all of the original varnish. Mechanically excellent. The totally original case is very fine showing minor handling/storage marks, some high spot wear on the lining and retaining most of the label. A superb example of an English Cased Colt Model 1849 revolver marked for the British market. A definite must have for the serious Colt percussion collector!
