The vehicle was purchased in 1952 by a BMW importer and remained in family ownership until 1990. That year it was bought by Logo de Carvalho, a well-known Portuguese car collector and vineyard owner from the famous wine-growing region Quinta da Alorna. Later, Mr. de Carvalho gave the car to his son as a present, who had obtained it in its original state until today. This vehicle is the final series that was still delivered as a BMW, because from July 1952 onwards, all other 340s were delivered with the red and white EMW emblem.

BMW/EMW
The EMW 340 was developed as first German post-war model in Eisenach in1948. Thereby it was a refined BMW 326, which was provided with revised front and rear areas. In the following years, this was developed further into an EMW 340-2 and also built as a wagon version in low quantities. From 1949 until the end of production in 1955, more than 21,200 pieces of type 340 and 340-2 were produced at the plant. By judgment of the District Court of Düsseldorf from the 17th of November 1950, seizures threatened to endanger the foreign exchange, if production would continue in Eisenach under the name BMW. From the 1st of July 1952 onwards, no more BMW, but only EMW emblems were mounted to the vehicles, at least to the vehicles for the western export. The vehicles that were delivered to the ‘socialist fraternal countries’, were said to have been fitted with BMW emblems for some time BMW emblems. Hence BMW turned into EMW.
