Condition / Notes: This is a scarce author-signed first edition of this essay collection. The inscription on the half title page reads "For Leroy Truman Goble / with the usual / good wishes / Bert Leston Taylor / May, 1912."

This antique volume is bound in green paper-covered boards with stamped gilt lettering to the front cover. The front cover is decorated with the silhouette of a plant, a design extending over the spine to the right-hand side of the rear cover. The book shows light shelfwear. The binding is sound. The volume has illustrated green endpapers. An antique bookplate appears on the front pastedown. The pages are clean and bright. This work contains full-page illustrations and decorations by C. B. Falls.

This book is from the library of Leroy Truman Goble, a minor figure in the Chicago literary renaissance of the 1920's. Goble was friendly with the likes of Sherwood Anderson and Ben Hecht. He was also a photographer and artist, although he seems to have worked in the fledgling advertising in Chicago during that time.
