BERNARD REMUSAT
French, born 1953

textured lithograph
Limited edition artwork numbered 13 of an edition of 75. Pencil titled, numbered and signed. Framed. Not examined out of frame.

  • Provenance: ARTIST PROFILE: Bernard Remusat, born in 1953 in Aix-en-Provence, began his artistic journey at the Fine Arts School of Luminy in Marseille before his pursuit of knowledge took him to Amsterdam, where he studied graphic design at the prestigious Rietveld Academy — named after a key figure of the De Stijl movement — from 1973 to 1978. He established himself first as an engraver, working from his studio in Mougins alongside luminaries of the Nice school such as César, Arman, Tobiasse, and Lebadang, refining his mastery by helping these artists translate their visions onto plates. A pivotal moment came in 1992 at the Graff workshop in Montreal, where, while sharing his expertise, he began exploring a personal visual language in which lines and parallelograms entered into dialogue beneath the press, giving rise to the harmonies that would come to define his reputation. The 1990s marked his emergence onto the international stage, with major exhibitions at the Grand Palais in Paris, as well as in Switzerland, the Netherlands, and Canada, during which time he expanded his practice by incorporating collage and allowing his work on canvas and on the press to mutually inform one another. Through his ongoing relationship with Denmark, where he exhibits annually, he introduced at the turn of the millennium a new visual world in which Scandinavian legends interweave with maps and territorial plans, tracing the milestones of humanity's conquest of land as both a testimony of passage and a poetic nod to rock imagery. Today, Remusat moves through an abstract realm that is as sensory as it is conceptual — one where line, color, and material converge in his signature reliefs, whose hollows and textures evoke the topography of a singular artistic journey marked by impressive power and rare balance.
