"Maud Elizabeth Charlesworth (1865-1948) later changed her name to Maud Ballington Booth, was an Salvation Army leader and co-founder of the Volunteers of America. She was born in Limpsfield, near Oxted, Surrey, England, the daughter of the local Anglican rector. One of three girls, she was a sister to bestselling romance novelist, Florence L. Barclay. The work of her parents in social issues led to Maud's interest for social welfare and social service. A scarce look at the experiences of British-American humanitarian Maud Ballington Booth. Booth was heavily influential in the Salvation Army in the late 1800s, ultimately leaving over disputes to found Volunteers of America in 1896."
