Battle Damaged Vickers Dutch Contract Model 1906 Luger Semi-Automatic Pistol Manufactured circa 1915-1917, these Lugers were produced in England for military export to the Netherlands. While neutral in the First World War, many of these pistols saw hard use at sea with the Royal Netherlands Navy, which continued to fight on in World War II even after the loss of their home ports to the Germans and their East Indies bases to the Japanese. This particular Vickers Luger has suffered significant battle damage, in particular a heavy strike (likely from a bullet, piece of shrapnel, or similarly lethal high speed projectile) on the frontstrap, affecting the pistol, magazine and grips; the frontstrap was hammered back out to permit removal of the heavily damaged magazine, with chipping visible on the left grip panel and a replacement matching numbered right grip panel. The exact circumstances of the damage are unrecorded. Fixed sights, with the "VICKERS/LTD" marking on the toggle link, "RUST" safety mark on the frame, and "GELADEN" on the extractor. A brass plate marked "Mgd.Amb./12" is installed on the side of the frame. London "GP", "V" and "NP" proofs are present on many components, with the "crown/W" acceptance stamp on the extension. Two magazines, one with the aforementioned battle damage and a later replacement in proper working order, are included.
