Desirable Antique Special Order Winchester Deluxe Model 1894 Extra Lightweight Lever Action Rifle with Factory Letter Manufactured in 1898, this is a fine example of a special order, deluxe Winchester Model 1894 extra lightweight rifle. Designed by the legendary John Moses Browning, the Winchester Model 1894, particularly chambered in the iconic .30-30 W.C.F., quickly became one of America's most popular and prolific hunting rifles, remaining so well into the 20th century. The included factory letter lists the serial number applied on 17 November 1898, .30 caliber, a round barrel, plain trigger, extra light, takedown, Lyman front sight, and a fancy checkered stock when received at the warehouse on 11 January 1899 and shipped on 12 January 1899 to order no. 19604. A rifle ordered in this configuration certainly has the appearances of having been a meticulously ordered deer rifle. The top of the barrel has the two-line address and the caliber marking at the breech, while the two-line nickel steel marking is on the left. The upper tang is marked with the three-line model and patent information, while the serial number is on the bottom of the receiver. The left side of the lower tang is unmarked, while the assembly number "6898" is marked on the butt of the stock and inside the buttplate. It is fitted with a Lyman beaded blade front sight and a three-leaf Winchester "Express" rear sight. It is mounted with a very finely figured forearm and straight grip stock, both with Winchester factory H-pattern checkering, and a crescent buttplate.
