An elegant antique German carving set comprising a long carving knife and matching two-tine serving fork, each fitted with natural stag antler handles and substantial sterling silver mounts of richly cast Rococo Revival design. The organically formed stag antler grips display beautiful natural texture and warm honey-colored patina, complemented by finely modeled sterling silver ferrules featuring bold scrolling ornament and architectural motifs. The knife retains its original tapered forged steel blade, while the companion serving fork is fashioned with gracefully curved tines and an integral finger rest, intended for carving and serving roasts, game, and other fine table presentations. Both sterling silver mounts are stamped "STEIFF," identifying production by the renowned German firm of Steiff. While internationally celebrated for its luxury plush creations, Steiff also produced finely crafted silver-mounted table accessories and giftware during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The combination of genuine stag antler, sterling silver, and forged steel exemplifies the exceptional quality associated with Continental sporting and dining implements of the period. Sets of this caliber were favored in hunting lodges, country estates, and formal dining rooms throughout Germany and Central Europe, where natural materials and hand-finished silverwork reflected both craftsmanship and refined taste. Today they remain highly collectible as examples of German decorative arts, antique sporting accessories, and silver-mounted tableware. An attractive and authentic Continental carving set that combines functional utility with the timeless appeal of sterling silver and natural stag antler.

  • Circa: Late 19th to Early 20th Century, circa 1890–1915.
  • Condition: Overall good antique condition consistent with age and use. Natural stag antler handles remain solid with an attractive aged patina. Sterling silver mounts exhibit light tarnish and minor surface wear commensurate with age. Forged steel knife blade and serving fork display oxidation, scattered spotting, and age-related wear from use. No major structural damage or repairs observed. An untouched antique example with desirable original character.
