"Holy Mediterranean Maps, Batman!" Antique 18th Century Copy R.W. Seale "A Map of Italy' We found this in only one location, an auction site for Antique Maps. This comes from the mid 1700's, around 1733 (there's a typed sticker on back, attributing it to the Mr. Tindal's Continuation of Mr. Rapin's History, dating it as 1751). It's titled; A Map of Italy with it's Kindoms, States & c. from the latest & best Observations For Mr. Tindal's Continuation of Mr. Rapin's History It measures approximately 18.5" x 15", is Mahogany framed and bordered, depicting Italy, showing towns, villages, roads and rivers, with a Legend for Capital Cities Archbishopricks Bishopricks Universities Castles Principality Dukedom Republick Along with Sicily, Sardinia, and Corsica, it additionally, shows parts of France, Switzerland, Germany, Crotia, Bosnia, and Turkey, offering a Legend of "Italian and British Miles, 60 to a Degree' and "German League, 15 to a Degree" It's in good condition, some minor soiling, a few spots, in the center, just below the middle. At some point in time, some color was added to this, as originally was without color (it looks to be done in watercolor paint, outlining the border, and the title border) Having said, that, this is still a Major-Good-Get, for a collector of Antique Maps, or, of Antique Itailian items.
