Game Scene Engraved Gold Inlaid J. Ansorg Back Action Hammer Cape Gun Manufactured by J. Ansorg of Wurzburg, Bavaria. Beaded blade front and fixed notch rear sights and an integral scope base on the rib. The rib is inscribed "J. ANSORG WURZBURG", and the barrels are marked "GUSS" and "STAHL" on the left and right respectively with fine gold inlay, and gold inlaid bands around the breeches. 2 1/2 inch chamber, single extractor, and cylinder choke. Neither the barrels nor frame are proofed, indicating manufactured prior to 1891. The receiver and lock plates are masterfully engraved with fine game scenes with fine Germanic scroll. The fancy trigger guard is also engraved and has a carved horn grip extension. Checkered forearm and horn break lever, with a flip up peep sight on the upper tang and checkered buttstock with raised cheekpiece and engraved flat buttplate. Barrel and stock measurements are: bore diameter at 9 inches from breech .680 inch; minimum wall thickness .028 inch; drop at comb 1 3/4 inches; drop at heel 3 inches; length of pull 13 1/4 inches. The barrels have an overall mottled gray patina with small dings and light spotting throughout. The markings are clear and legible with most of the gold inlay present. The receiver and locks have an overall gray patina with sharp engraving, some small dings, and handling marks overall. The stock is fair as repaired with a visible break at the wrist, mostly smooth checkering, and small dings and dents throughout. Mechanically very good.
