Near East, Syria, Parthian, ca. 2nd century BCE to 2nd century CE. A wheel-thrown cylindrical jar enlivened by a pale turquoise green glaze that now blooms with pearly white iridescence, its softly rounded body rising from a short ring foot to a gently everted rim. Such glazed wares, produced across the Levant and eastern Mediterranean under Parthian and early Roman influence, reflect enduring Near Eastern taste for green and blue glazes derived from copper oxides. Provenance: private Colorado, USA collection, ex collection of Y. Kayvan, Los Angeles, California, USA, acquired from Barakat Gallery, Beverly Hills, CA, acquisition dates range from the late 1990s to 2005
