Ancient Eastern Mediterranean, possibly Western Anatolia or Phoenicia, ca. 1000 to 100 BCE. A bone amulet carved in the form of a crouching zoomorphic figure. Part of the body, possibly the head or posterior, is missing, making its precise identification challenging. The figure appears to crouch on bent legs, suggesting it may represent a bull or a similar animal. The flattened verso is adorned with crosshatched incisions, adding decorative detail. A protruding element, likely the tail or head, is drilled, possibly to accommodate the inlay of a contrasting material, such as stone. A suspension hole is vertically pierced from between the legs through the upper edge, indicating the piece was designed to be worn or displayed as an amulet. Size: 1.7" L x 0.4" W x 0.9" H (4.3 cm x 1 cm x 2.3 cm)

Provenance: ex-Phoenicia Holyland Antiquities, New York, New York, USA, acquired 1970s to 2000s
