An important Scottish Highland dress dirk with its original companion knife and fork retained within the scabbard. Executed in the traditional Highland form, the dirk features a deeply carved dark hardwood hilt decorated with interlaced basket-weave and Celtic-inspired motifs, terminating in a domed pommel mounted with a silver cap. The matching accessory knife and fork are similarly carved and fitted, demonstrating the high level of craftsmanship associated with quality Scottish regimental and civilian Highland dress arms. The black leather-covered wooden scabbard is mounted with finely engraved silver fittings displaying traditional thistle decoration, Scotland's national emblem. The mounts bear the marks and hallmarks of Wilson & Sharp, Edinburgh, one of Scotland's most respected jewelers, silversmiths, and military outfitters during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The single-edged steel blade measures 11 in. (28 cm) in length and exhibits the characteristic scalloped notched back edge found on traditional Highland dirks. Complete examples retaining their original companion knife and fork are increasingly difficult to find, particularly those bearing the marks of established Edinburgh makers. The present dirk combines traditional Highland aesthetics, quality silver-mounted workmanship, and desirable maker attribution, making it an attractive example for collectors of Scottish arms, militaria, and Highland regalia.
