The writer, misled and deceived by others, gave testimony that was perhaps decisive in procuring the indictment of Nathan F. Hart. for the murder of Sarah Meservey, of St. George by the Grand Jury of Knox County, Maine, at the March Term of the Supreme Judicial Court, for the year 1878." (First paragraph of the preface)
Condition / Notes: This is a scarce author-signed first edition, with an elegantly handwritten inscription on the front flyleaf.

This antique volume is bound in light green cloth with stamped gilt lettering to the spine and black lettering to the front cover (the latter reads "Nathan F. Hart An Innocent Man in a Felon's Cell"). A front cover pictorial design, stamped in black, depicts a man behind bars. This slightly cocked book shows external wear, with light soiling to the covers. A circular stain appears on the rear cover. Minor ripping can be seen at the top edge of the front cover. The rear hinge is cracked, and the rear flyleaf has been almost entirely excised. A previous owner's name appears at the top of the front flyleaf. The pages exhibit occasional light foxing. This work is illustrated with portraits of the author and of Nathan F. Hart, as well as plans of the crime scene.
