Alfredo Ramos Martínez
(1871-1946, Mexico)
"La Adoración," 1947
Screenprint in colors on paper
From the edition of unknown size
With the black ink stamp of the artist's signature, upper right: Ramos Martínez

  • Provenance:
    Donated by Louis Stern
  • Dimensions: Frame: 29 7/8 x 24 1/2 x 1 1/2 in.
  • Medium: Screenprint in colors on paper
  • Notes:
La Adoración is an example of the screenprints produced by Alfredo Ramos Martínez's widow, María Sodi de Ramos Martínez. María undertook this series of prints after her husband's passing in 1946 with the intention of furthering his legacy, replicating existing images of his artwork using the screen printing process and stamping his signature on the prints to indicate the images were her husband's inventions. She often countersigned these serigraphs with her name in pencil to memorialize her role as the printmaker, as she did with this example in the lower left corner. Corita Kent credited María Sodi de Ramos Martínez as the person who initially taught her the technique of screenprinting.
