"[typed] Coconut Grove Florida

1922 March 11

In response to your request for my autograph I have much pleasure in handing it to you hereon.

[signed] Alexander Graham Bell".

In later life, Bell often vacationed in Coconut Grove, Florida when he was not at Beinn Bhreagh, his retreat in Baddeck, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.

Alexander Graham Bell is most celebrated for his invention of the telephone, patented in the United States in 1876. He was also an aeronautical engineer and teacher of the deaf. It has been argued that Bell's interest in communications technology is rooted in his family history. Since both his mother and wife were deaf, Bell understood the importance of accessible, free, and universal communication.
