ALBIN BRUNOVSKY (Slovak, 1935-1997) "Surreal Scene" 1990 - Limited edition etching on rag paper, 6/100. Signed, dated and editioned lower centre. Unframed. 4.5 x 3 inches (image), 8 x 6 inches (paper). Excellent condition. Created as an ex libris bookplate for Pim Zwiers.

  • Notes: Albin Brunovsky was born in 1935 in Zohor, Slovakia. He studied at the Academy of Applied Arts in Bratislava from 1955 to 1961, then at the Academy of Fine Arts from 1963-1966 (under Professor Hloznik, known for demanding creative excellence and technical precision). Brunovsky soon became director of the book design studio at the Academy of Fine Arts, where he remained until 1990. During his career he created illustrations for more than fifty books, while also creating designs for stamps and banknotes. Throughout his career he created miniature paintings and excelled in making small etchings and ex libris, often densely detailed and startlingly original surreal works. Today his work can be found in such important collections as the Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York), Museum of Modern Art (Paris), Art Institute of Chicago, Library of Congress (Washington), National Gallery of Art (Washington), Royal Museum of Fine Arts (Copenhagen) Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam). Albin Brunovsky died in 1997 in Bratislava.

Saskatchewan Network for Art Collecting can provide purchasers with several options for packing and shipping throughout Canada, the US and internationally. All packing and shipping is done at the expense of the purchaser. If you are the successful bidder on one or more lots, you will receive an email directly from the auction house within 48 hours. Please then contact us to discuss your packing, shipping and pick-up preferences (and we can remove artworks from framing in order to ship without frame and glass). All artworks are located in Regina, Saskatchewan and are available for pick-up. Also, we are currently offering free delivery in Regina on invoices over $200, and occasional delivery trips are made to Saskatoon to hand-deliver to Saskatoon home addresses for a small fee when there is sufficient demand. We can pack and ship throughout Canada and internationally, or can deliver your artworks to a recognized international shipper for them to pack and ship via their direct communications with you. For US buyers, note that all Canadian and US artworks have been proceeding as tariff exempt under the terms of the Canada-US-Mexico Free Trade Agreement, but the situation can change. Artworks with a country of origin other than Canada, US or Mexico are more likely to have a tariff fee added by US Customs.
