Fine American Expeditionary Force Artillerist's Belt Rig and a U.S. Model 1917 Trench Knife 1) Belt rig, consisting of a tan canvas belt, a brown leather "G.&K./1917" revolver holster, a 1916 Bauer & Black first air packet in a "P.B&CO.1918" pouch, and two loaded (mixed headstamps/dates, 36 rounds) clip pouches, one marked "63/(crossed cannons)/F" on the back, the other "R Verrill/2nd Lieut 158 F.A. Brig/32nd Div/AEF". Trench fighting knife and holster belt rig with ammunition and sealed first aid kit. Though not positively confirmed, research shows a 2nd Lieutenant Robinson Verrill of Portland, Maine, as a field artillerist with the 32nd Division, who represented the unit at the post-WWI American Officer's Championship at Cannes in 1919 and was a lawyer in civilian life. Among other distinctions, the 32nd was the first Allied unit to breach the Hindenberg Line. 2) American Cutlery Company 1917 trench knife, 14 inches overall with a 9 inch blued triangular spike blade, triangular punching studs on the guard, contoured wood grip and a green leather sheath with steel fittings.
