The weapon comprising a straight, faceted steel shaft of elongated hexagonal section, terminating in a robust multi-flanged spherical head. The head is formed as a lobed bulb with pronounced radial flanges designed to concentrate impact, a form characteristic of Central European war maces developed for use against armored opponents. The terminal knop is forged integrally, completing the compact striking element. The shaft transitions into a hardwood grip, secured with multiple rivets and reinforced with metal studs, providing both structural strength and improved handling. The studded grip, together with the practical construction, reflects a martial rather than ceremonial purpose. The junction between the steel neck and grip is clean and functional, consistent with working weapons of the Hungarian frontier regions. This type is closely associated with Hungarian and broader Central European cavalry traditions during the 17th–18th centuries, particularly within the context of Habsburg–Ottoman frontier warfare. While similar forms are encountered in Ottoman arsenals, the proportions, faceted neck, and studded wooden grip are especially consistent with Hungarian manufacture and use.

  • Dimensions: L: 20 5/16 in., (51.6 cm.)
  • Condition: Overall good condition. The steel retains a dark, even patina with areas of oxidation and light pitting consistent with age. The flanged head remains crisp and well-defined. The wooden grip shows wear from use, with rivets intact and secure.
