Pre-Columbian, Central America, Costa Rica, Nicoya, ca. 500 BCE to 800 CE; Northern Andes, Narino-Carchi, ca. 500 BCE to 1500 CE; West Mexico, Colima, ca. 200 BCE to 200 CE; Mesoamerica, Maya, ca. 250 to 900 CE; Central Andes, Tiahuanaco, ca. 300 to 1000 CE. A varied and visually engaging group of six Pre-Columbian pottery vessels, spanning a broad geographic and cultural range across the ancient Americas. The assemblage brings together distinct traditions from Central America, Mesoamerica, West Mexico, and the Andes, offering a compact survey of regional ceramic innovation. The Tiahuanaco vessel from the Central Andes is distinguished by its compact form and restrained surface treatment. A painted jar from Costa Rican Nicoya displays crisp geometric ornament, while a larger Nicoya bowl features bold rectilinear designs characteristic of the region’s polychrome tradition. The lobed jar from Colima reflects the sculptural, rounded forms favored in West Mexican ceramics. Size of largest (tripod): 11.8" Diameter x 3.2" H (30 cm x 8.1 cm)

A Narino-Carchi rectangular vessel introduces a striking architectural geometry, contrasting with the rounded profiles elsewhere in the group. Completing the set is a Maya tripod bowl, its elevated form and painted interior suggesting ceremonial or high-status use. Together, these vessels form a cohesive yet diverse group, unified by earthen palettes and timeworn surfaces, and well suited for comparative display or study of Pre-Columbian ceramic traditions.

  • Condition: Maya tripod and Nicoya bowl and jar have been repaired with break lines visible, as well as some infill and repainting in areas. Chipping to rims of Narino rectangular vessel and Colima jar. All have expected weathering and surface wear. Otherwise, Tiahuanaco jar is intact and have good remaining decoration and scattered earthen deposits.
