A group of five Canadian 5 cent silver coins spanning the reigns of Edward VII and George V, comprising dates 1902, 1903, 1911, 1917, and 1920. Each piece was engraved by Leonard Charles Wyon and George William de Saulles, showing the crowned effigy of the monarch on the obverse and a crowned maple-leaf wreath surrounding the denomination and date on the reverse. Struck in .925 sterling silver with a standard weight of 1.167 grams and a diameter of 15.5 millimeters, these diminutive silver issues were the last of Canada's "fish-scale" five-cent coins before the nickel pieces of 1922. The group displays varied natural toning and honest circulation wear, with legible inscriptions EDWARDVS VII D G REX IMPERATOR on the early issues and GEORGIVS V DEI GRA REX ET IND IMP on the later, each retaining partial lustre in protected areas. An attractive type set illustrating the transition of Canadian silver coinage in the early twentieth century and appealing to both type and date collectors alike.
