Lot of fifty (50) Edison Blue Amberol cylinder records, manufactured by Thomas A. Edison, Inc. of Orange, New Jersey, dates from the golden era of the 1910s and 1920s. These 4-minute records represent a pinnacle of early acoustic recording technology, constructed of durable blue celluloid over a plaster core, which offered vastly superior sound quality and durability compared to their wax predecessors. This impressive assortment features a wonderful variety of popular period acts, including numerous titles by legendary recording artists such as Billy Murray, Walter Van Brunt, Ada Jones, and Irving Gillette, complete with several original cardboard storage tubes showing their classic printed title labels. A selection of identifiable titles and artists visible in this lot includes: “Alexander’s Ragtime Band” by Billy Murray (2048), “I’m Smiling at de Moon dat Smiles at You” by Irving Gillette (1512), “A Real Moving Picture from Life” by Walter Van Brunt (2356), “Flanagan's Irish Jubilee” by Steve Porter & Co. (1725), “Little Cotton Dolly” by the Criterion Quartet (2872), “Siam” by Billy Murray & Chorus (2615), and “Good-Bye Boys” by Billy Murray (1749). Physically, the lot is in good vintage condition overall, with the celluloid cylinders showing minor surface dust, light wear, and expected plaster core deterioration typical of their age, while the remaining cardboard tubes and lids exhibit varying degrees of scuffing, edge wear, and occasional tearing. H 6", W 18", D 16". Please see photos for condition. From the Allen Koenigsberg collection.
