A spectacular grouping of fifty (50) Edison Blue Amberol cylinder records. Introduced by Thomas A. Edison, Inc. of Orange, New Jersey starting in 1912, these iconic 4-minute cylinders are constructed of celluloid over a plaster core, making them significantly more durable than their wax predecessors. This massive, clean assortment features a fantastic cross-section of early American recorded audio, showcasing popular vaudeville routines, military marches, comic sketches, instrumental solos, and classic songs of the era. Included in this lot are sought-after titles featuring famous recurring characters such as Cal Stewart's "Uncle Josh" series (including "Uncle Josh in a Photograph Gallery," "Uncle Josh on a Bicycle," and "Uncle Josh at a Bug House"), patriotic selections like "The Star-Spangled Banner" by Stanley, historic popular hits like "The Mocking Bird Fantasia (Xylophone)" by Daab, and various early ragtime, band, and vocal recordings like Al Bernard's "Strut Miss Lizzie," "Sweet Indiana Home" and "Fox Trot" by the Broadway Dance Orchestra, Margaret Keyes singing "Angel's Serenade," "The Band Festival at Plum Center" by Ada Jones, Harlan & Porter, and "The Kiss Waltz (Saxophone)" by Henton. Physically, the lot presents beautifully; the celluloid surfaces are largely clean, displaying rich blue and dark navy hues with exceptionally clear, legible plaster-stamped titles on the rims. Structurally, they are in highly stable condition with no visible cracks, chips, or major structural breaks to the celluloid or inner plaster cores, though minor interior plaster flaking and light surface dust or grime consistent with age should be expected. H 5", W 23", D 24". Please see photos for condition. From the Allen Koenigsberg collection.
