The 3D comics fad started in July, 1953, with the release of Three Dimension Comics #1 (featuring Mighty Mouse). Within the next year or so, a total of fifty different 3D comics were produced to cash in on the craze. By the time EC released its two 3D mags in 1954, the craze had pretty much run its course. Both books had small print runs (approximately 300,000 each), and both sold poorly.

"EC was a latecomer to the 3-D comics craze. Its books in the format arrived on newsstands when the fad had cooled considerably." — Bill Schelly, Harvey Kurtzman: The Man Who Created MAD and Revolutionized Humor in America. Fantagraphics: 2015, p. 285.
