Artist's Biography:
Ray Fisher (1924–2020) was an acclaimed American photojournalist who turned down an offer from Life magazine to dedicatedly document the cultural, historical, and celebrity landscape of mid-century Miami. After learning photography from his father and working as a combat photographer during World War II, Fisher attended the University of Miami and joined the Miami Herald in 1953, where he rose to chief photographer and picture editor. Throughout his prolific career, he captured iconic portraits of historic figures like Muhammad Ali, Frank Sinatra, Harpo Marx, and multiple U.S. Presidents, creating a vast body of work that is now permanently preserved in the archives of the HistoryMiami Museum and the Lowe Art Museum.
