Details: This lot includes the pair of antique hand-colored Currier lithographs shown in the corresponding image(s). These are pieces by Nathaniel Currier and depict two U. S. presidents.

One is a representation of the Washington family gathered around a table by a window looking out onto a body of water dotted with ships. George and Martha Washington are seated, with both extending a hand over a map, accompanied by their granddaughter, standing behind the table, and a grandson, standing to the left of George Washington. The boy's right hand pulls back a blue cloth covering a globe. The captions under the title ("Washington Family") read "George Washington & the Grandchildren by the Names of Custis / Lith. & Pub. by N. Currier 2 Spruce St. N Y"

The second depicts the death of William Henry Harrison, the ninth president of the United States, April 4, 1841, after only a month in office. The dying man is shown lying on his death bed, surrounded by government representatives, as a woman, seated to his right, leans over the bed, covering her face, as she weeps. The title "Death of Harrison, April 4 A. D. 1841" appears above the quotation "I wish you to understand the true principles of the Government. I wish them carried out. I ask nothing more." "Published by N. Currier" 2 Spruce St." appears underneath the quotation.
