Details: This lot includes the group of chromolithographs with linen finish shown in the corresponding image(s). This collection offers 20 episodes from the Franco-Prussian war, with numerous battle scenes, and depictions of soldiers, officers, and military leaders, including, in at least one instance, the King of Prussia Wilhelm I and Bismarck. This chronicle provides insight into both the conflict, the history of its representation, and the iconography of French and German military uniforms and insignia (including the signature "Pickelhaube" or spiked helmet on the German side, and the zouave uniform on the French). This group contains illustrations of engagements, including several involving large numbers of both infantry and cavalry, with panoramic and close range views. There is also a scene of artillery being deployed against a French town. A number of these illustrations appear to have been done by Max Dittrich after Max Henze.

Condition / Notes: These glossy color lithographs, measuring approximately 20.75" x 16", exhibit wear at edges, with occasional minor loss and small (closed) tears, together with mild rippling. Tide markings are visible on the versos. The name of the military encounter represented appears in pencil on several of the versos. The margins appear to have been cropped, so that no titles or captions are present. The images are brightly colored and show quite nicely.
