Isaac Keeler Revolutionary War document signed with related letter. 1p, 7.875" x 4.125"; "Camp"; September 19, 1781. Isaac Keeler signs a document certifying that Jesse St. John, a soldier serving in his regiment, has been furnished with clothing by his father. Keeler was a lieutenant in the 2nd Connecticut Regiment. Together with a letter (7.75" x 3.5") by Eliphalet Lockwood dated January 1782, Hartford, Connecticut, to Elijah Hubbard, Superintendent of Stores, sending him St. John's name. Both documents have flattened folds and light toning. The Lockwood letter has a few tears and a small area of loss where the seal was torn open.

The Keeler signed document reads: "Mr. Nathan St. John of Norwalk has furnished his son who is [in] the Continental Service with One pair of shoes one pair of Stocking One pair of overalls & Three yards of Brown Linning Cloath." Signed "Isaac Keeler Lieut." With annotations in another hand allocating costs to each item.

Both Keeler and St. John enlisted with the 2nd Connecticut Regiment when it was organized in the early months of 1777 and served under Captain Stephen Betts. The regiment consisted of eight companies recruited from Fairfield, Windham, and Harford Counties. In addition to participating in key engagements at Brandywine, Germantown and Monmouth, the regiment was encamped at Valley Forge with George Washington. Both St. John and Keeler are listed on the muster roll project posted at friendsofvalleyforge.org.
