This short, atmospheric book deals with a moment resonant in American history. We follow Abraham Lincoln on his train journey to the consecration of the national cemetery at Gettysburg; his writing of his famous speech; and consequently his delivery of the address on the recent battlefield of Gettysburg. The orator himself is ironically unsure of the effectiveness of his speech, and there then follows an encounter between Lincoln and a Southern soldier approaching death which neatly encapsulates the patriotic and historical meaning of that speech for all Americans. Although historical fiction, this is history made evocatively accessible to the present generation".

Illustrated with frontispiece. Damp staining to bottom of pages but not obscuring any text, o/w internally tight & unmarked. Binding Exterior: handling wear/scattered edge rubbing but all lettering/decoration bright. NO DJ AS ISSUED. (See scans).
