Southeast Asia, Philippines, Moro culture, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A traditional Filipino short sword known as a barong, fitted with a broad, leaf-shaped steel blade and a carved hardwood hilt. The handle features a sculpted pommel with flowing contours and is mounted with a sterling silver ferrule securing the blade at the neck. The single-edged blade has a thick spine and wide profile, tapering to a strong point. Designed for powerful chopping strikes, the barong is both a functional weapon and a distinctive example of regional martial craftsmanship. Size: 24.5" L x 3" W (62.2 cm x 7.6 cm)
