East Asia, China, Qing dynasty to Republic era, ca. 1800–1950 CE. An export porcelain plate in the Rose Medallion pattern, the scalloped rim enclosing four panels of alternating court figures and floral sprays with birds, arranged around a central butterfly-ringed medallion of a bird among peonies. The decoration is executed in leaded polychrome enamels over the glaze, with the dense green foliate ground and rose pinks characteristic of Canton workshops. Size: 9.6" Diameter x 1.5" H (24.4 cm D x 3.8 cm H).

From the collection of Eugene Rotberg (1930-2025), longtime vice president and treasurer of the World Bank, noted collector of Asian art, and a figure widely regarded as one of the most influential in international finance of the late 20th century.

Provenance: private Colorado, USA collection, from the estate of Eugene and Iris Rotberg, before 2000
