The lot features a fabulous 19th-century Central Plains Porcupine Hair Roach from ex-Cowan’s / Hindman. The piece is comprised of porcupine hair, porcupine quill and deer hair and Germantown yarn showing natural white and natural brown with a natural dyed yellow ocher tips. The inside shows a tightly woven porcupine hair, quillwork and deer hide with Germantown orange and red yarns. These headdress war bonnet roaches would have been worn across the top of the warrior’s head for battle or a special ceremony. The condition of this Central Plains roach is good with no obvious signs of damage and shows good overall condition. The measurement of this roach is 25-inches long by 12-inches. Provenance: From an ex-Cowan’s Hindman auction and a private Montana collection of Native American beadwork and artifacts.
