Signed lower right De Simone 1872 (Italy 1805-1888). Tomaso de Simone is considered to be one of the most important ship portraitists who practiced in the Italian seaport cities. The father of noted sea painter Antonio de Simone, Tomaso specialized in oils, the majority depicting warships and merchant vessels. Ships in rough seas in the Bay of Naples. A lighthouse in the background and a barrel floating in the water. Name of ship on the bow. Original untouched condition with original period frame. Image 26 ½ inches x 43 ½ inches.
